The Cornwall Dog Control Officer (DCO) and shelter service enforces both State and local dog laws and ordinances. Further, it is the DCO’s responsibility to pick up lost and stray dogs and humanely care for them until they can be reunited with t heir owners or a suitable new owner is found.

Please note the DCO does not handle animal cruelty investigations. Local, state and local ASPCA agents are given this authority by the NYS Dept. of Agriculture and Markets.

Dog Control Officer Services:
 Pickup loose dogs
 Respond to dog nuisance complaints
 Provide shelter for lost dogs until owner pickup
 Arrange adoption for un-owned dogs
 Assist in the location of lost dogs
